New GFA must be firm in terms of corruption-PABLO AL KAALIK

written by sportsAdmin

Super Agent and Ex-pro Pablo Al-Kaalik”-says future Ghana Football Association administrations should deal with corruption in the game far more decisively than previous administrations.

Pablo’s comments come at a time when the FIFA/CAF Normalization Committee is to meet the Government of Ghana over the membership of the committee.

The committee is tasked with the running the Ghana FA on a daily basis while reviewing the FA statutes in accordance with FA rules and also, draw a roadmap for the elections of a new Ghana FA Executive Committee.

In an interview, Pablo said that the new administration should do a better job at doing away with corrupt officials unlike the previous administration that failed to take bold measures to deal with improper conduct.

We have to make sure we clean the system. But then, the FA brought this entire situation (the Anas tape and its aftermath) on itself.

The FIFA/CAF Normalization Committee will replace the current Ghana FA Executive Committee and it has until the end of March 2019 to complete all of its tasks.

Pablo was recently a special guest at Pan African parliament which looked at serious development issues regarding the game in Johannesburg -South Africa.

Frank Nuttal cites individual errors for Hearts defeat

written by Editor

Premier league giants, Accra Hearts of Oak suffered a 2-1 defeat against Tema Youth, in what was supposed to be a normal win before their big game against historic rivals, Asante Kotoko on Sunday.

Tema Youth took the lead early in the game through Joseph Paintsil thanks to a defensive blunder from Hearts goalkeeper Bernard Mensah and held on till the end of the first 45 minutes.

After the recess, Thomas Abbey snatched the equalizer for the rainbow boys in the 48th minute, only for Ibrahim Yusif to hit home the winner for the Harbor Boys, 9 minutes away from full time.

Speaking to the press after the game, Hearts of Oak, Scottish gaffer, Frank Nuttal blamed individual errors for his side’s defeat.
“We prepared very well for the match. The players were well recovered for the game, the team’s selection was spot on, the tactics was also good but our individual mistakes made things complicated for us.”
“Mistakes are bound to happen in football but I must give credit to the players for recovering after, and we could have gotten something at the end but it’s unfortunate we leave here empty handed.”

Accra Hearts of Oak will host rivals Asante Kotoko in the first super-clash of the season at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday. Kotoko currently joint top with Aduana on the league log.

Sports Minister storms out of GOC Congress over late start

written by Editor

The Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah, was left red-faced at the late start of the Ghana Olympic Committee’s Elective Congress on Tuesday at the Alisa Hotel.

The Minister arrived at the venue for the event at the advertised time of 9:00am, but after waiting for about 30 minutes, he decided to leave. He was slated to give a speech at the Congress to open the event.

The speech would have been the Minister’s first major public one since he was sworn into office.

The incident was confirmed  by officials of the Ghana Olympic Committee and the spokesperson of the Sports Ministry, Elvis Adjei-Baah.

Adjei-Baah went on to state that the Minister’s action was a follow-through on President Nana Akuffo-Addo’s calls on public appointees to respect time. He gave his admonition when he gave his State of the Nation to Parliament on February 21.

“Mr Speaker, there are some areas of our lives in which we can all demonstrate the change for which the people of Ghana have voted: punctuality, sanitation and the care of the environment. Over the years, it has become acceptable for official functions to invariably start and close late. We invite people to functions for 9:00am and start at 10:00am.”

“I have heard some offer the preposterous excuse that there is something cultural about not paying attention to time. Mr Speaker, let us show that we acknowledge that change has indeed come by being punctual to functions. I intend to set a personal example.”

The Minister’s speech was read on his behalf by Director General of the National Sports Authority, Joe Kpenge.

The GOC’s Elective Congress is to vote for a new administration to run the affairs of the committee for a four-year term.  The current President of the committee, Prof. Francis Dodoo, will go against Ben Nunoo Mensah, President of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation for the position of president.

2017 UPAC Zone B open to all teams

written by Editor

The 2017 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship will have four teams make their  debuts in the competition with Koforidua Technical University, Maritime University, KAAF University and All Nations University Colleges play in the Championship for the first time.

However, with the exception of Maritime University, all three remaining debutants have been drawn in Zone B alongside Valley View University with games set to be played on February 24 at Koforidua Technical.

Valley View is the only side that has experience playing in this competition after featuring in last year’s edition.

However, the side barely made it into the quarter finals thanks to University of Development Studies (UDS) failure to show up due to administrative challenges.

Valley View failed to win any games in the quarters before exiting the competition. Coupled with the loss of Starting Shooting Guard Bright Otu-Masi, Valley View’s chances of repeating a final eight feat hangs in the balance which opens the door for the debutants to creep into elite territory.

Only winners from the zone qualifies to play in Ghana’s capital, Accra on April 6 and 7for a spot in the semis and final games.

Isaac Asiamah, the minister designate for Youth and Sports will today, Tuesday, February 7, 2017 appear before the Appointments Committee of Parliament for vetting.

President Akufo Addo named the Member of Parliament for the Atwima Mponua constituency in Ashanti to fill the position in an announcement at the flagstaff house last month.

Familiar environment

The minister designate will face four former Sports Ministers on the vetting panel which include; immediate past Sports Minister, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, Mahama Ayariga, Muntaka Mubarak and Rashid Pelpou.

The MP for the Atwima Mponua constituency should however not be fazed by this having himself served on the Parliamentary select committee for Youth and Sports in the previous Parliament.

Black Stars and expected areas of probe

Mr. Asiamah, appears before the committee days after the Black Stars failed to break the Nation’s 35 year wait for an AFCON trophy.

Many people have raised questions about the quantum of money spent in the administration  of football in the country  at the neglect f other disciplines.

Frequent Changes at the Ministry

Ghana’s Sports Ministry has seen frequent changes at the top. Since 2000 the ministry has had 16 ministers averaging a one every year. The past three Ministers who have been there have fallen out with either the media or the Ghana FA.

Tunisia Secure AFCON Quarter Final Berth

written by sportsAdmin

Tunisia secured their place in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals as Group B runners-up with an easy win over bottom team Zimbabwe.

Naim Sliti’s deflected shot put Tunisia ahead before Youssef Msakni and Taha Khenissi extended the lead.

Knowledge Musona grabbed one back but a Wahbi Khazri penalty restored Tunisia’s three-goal cushion by the break.

Tendai Ndoro prodded in a Zimbabwe counter, before Khenissi hit the post in a wasteful second half.
