Hearts of Oak Trainer Set Sight On FA Cup Glory After Booking Last Eight Ticket

written by Editor

Hearts of Oak manager Frank Elliot Nuttal has set sight on lifting the coveted MTN FA cup after booking a last eight ticket with the Phobias. The Scott trainer for the capital based shielded his players from the media backlash and tipped his side to sail all the way.

An own goal from Abdul Rahman Abdulai booked the Phobians a last eight ticket at the expense of the brave Young Wise. Despite the unconvincing nature of his side, Frank Nuttal dubbed the cup professional as a professional job and remained hopeful his boys will climb the podium the end of the competition.

“The game was a cup tie and most teams are trying to get to the quarter finals of the FA Cup and away from home, our players have showed enough motivations to win the game and did a very professional job.

“The players and the staff are very happy to have made the quarter finals and will be happy to win the competition. Every time they go on behalf of the club they are looking at winning competitions”, Frank Nuttal after game

The Phobians are one of five premier league side left in the competition going into next month’s quarter final pairings. A possible reunion with Kumasi Asante at any stage of the completion could make it six meetings in one season.

MTN FA Cup: Berekum Chelsea Rout Holders To Book Last Eight Ticket As Amidaus Stun WAFA SC

written by Editor

Five Premier league sides booked their place in the last eight o of the 2017 MTN FA cup led by the rampant Berekum Chelsea FC at the Golden City Park. The blues spanked the holders for 4-0 in a ruthless demolition exercise that ended the holders’ title defence ambition.

A brace from Stephen Sarfo highlighted the scoring prowess of the Blues at home to Bechem United in the Bono derby. The landslide win booked a last eight ticket for the host as the holders bid good bye at the last 16 stage.

Far away in Samroboi in the western region, David Sandan Abagna registered his ninth goal in all competition to lead Wa All Stars into a crucial 1-2 win at the expense of Samartex 1996. The reigning premier league title holders eased into a 0-2 lead thanks to goals from Abagna and Kelvin Andoh before the host pulled one back in an eventful game for the visitors.

At the Kasoa Park, Accra Young Wise slammed to an own goal earlier into the game to end their FA cup dreams at the expense of the unconvincing Hearts of Oak. Frank Elliot and his Phobian boys limped into the quarters but will have to up their game to stand any chance of winning

Amos Frimpong arrowed home a spotkick for Kumasi Asante Kotoko to deny a brave Wassaman United at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The skipper’s spot kick hauled his side into the last eight but will need some massive upgrade in their game if they are to proceed into the podium.

Medeama SC had Joseph Tetteh Zutah to thank for their progress into the final 8 teams in a 1-0 win over Elmina Sharks in the regional derby. The solitary from the experience Zuttah won the game for the Mauve and Yellows.

Amidaus ousted WAFA SC from the competition in a strange 1-0 win for the capital based side. An early goal from Danbort at the Tema proved to be the winner in one of the usual shocking results in the competition.

Dormaa based Nea Salamina booked their ticket to the last eight teams thanks to a 2-0 win over Steadfast. The dominant host deservedly zoomed past their Tamale based opponent into the quarter finals of the competition.

The lottery of shootouts proved favoured Danbort in a thrilling 17 shootouts that saw the division one earning a 9-8 ticket after a 1-1 score line in regulation time.

Kotoko, Hearts of Oak, Wa All Stars , Medeama SC,  Berekum Chelsea FC, will be joined by Nea Salamina , Amidaus and Danbort into the quarter finals in a draw slated for next month.

GHPL WK17 Round Up: Flying WAFA,  Struggling Reds And The Rampant Chelsea Lead The Way

written by Editor

Week seventeen of the Ghana Premier League ended with interesting result as the Accra branch of Ghana’s most decorated clubs received battering at the hands of the “Academy Boys, their colleagues in Kumasi were saved by a last minute penalty from new boy  Saddick Adams.

A tweet on Hearts of Oak twitter handle encapsulates everything that happened at Sogakope on Sunday with the boom  boom sound taking the media traffic.

Hearts were thorn apart by the young lads of WAFA who showed no mercy to their old folks. A five star performance with 5 goals capped off a humiliating afternoon for Frank Nuttall’s charges.

Majeed Ashimeru, Daniel Lomotey (2x) Abdul Wahab and Caleb Amankwah were the youngsters who inflicted on Hearts their heaviest defeat since the inception of the Ghana Premier League.

In Berekum, Chelsea showed resilience and determination to defeat Aduana Stars 3-2 in the regional derby. Alfred Okai Quaye bagged a hat-trick for the Blues to cancel our Mumuni  Zakaria and Bright Adjei”s strikes for the Ogya Boys.

Tom Strand and his charges were left disappointed after a controversial penalty prevented them from leaving Kumasi with three points in their bag. The opener was found in the 47th minute by Kwame  Boahene  but in the dying embers of the game, new recruit Saddick Adams restored parity.

CK AKunnor’s Ashogold continued their impressive revival journey with a 3-O thumping of Cape Coast based Abusua Dwarfs. Richard Ocean got a brace whiles Hans Kwoffie put the icing on the cake.

At the Tema Sports stadium, it ended 0-0 between Tema Youth and Liberty Professionals.

Inter Allies returned from their trip to Bolga with a satisfying point added to their already accumulated points.

Medeama’s mission to Elmina ended on a sour note as they bowed to two goals from Emmanuel Otoo and Farouk Mohammed. Elmina Sharks emerged victors in that contest.

Ahmed Toure got his 7th goal of the campaign as he helped Bechem United secure a 2-nill win over current champions Wa All Stars. Wontah Konkoni got the other goal for Bechem United to put the champions on the wrong  end of the rope.

GHPL: Saddick Alhassan To Make His Kotoko Audition AT Home To Great Olympics

written by Editor

Former Ghana youth international Saddick Adams is set to make his debut for Kumasi Asante Kotoko when the Red Devils take on Accra Great Olympics at the Baba Yara sports stadium tomorrow. The stoutly  built centre forward switched camp from Berekum Chelsea in the second half of the season but is set to be unleashed at home to the in -form visitors.

The former Athletico Madrid and Ashgold goal machine earned a mouth watering deal with the struggling Kotoko as they eye a late resurgence in the title onslaught. The prolific attacker missed the opening game of the second round away to Tema Youth but look set to be handed his first ever competitive game in the colours of Kumasi Asante Kotoko when they welcome the two times league champions on Sunday.

The arrival of Saddick Adams at the Baba Yara Sport stadium will alleviate the goal scoring problems of the club that look set to derail their title ambitions. The entire playing body of Kumasi Asante Kotoko have combined to score a paltry 10 goals in 16 games with Yakubu Mohammed leading the pack with four goals.

Tom Markus Strand and his in-form Accra Great Olympics visit the Baba Yara Sports stadium on the back drop of seven points from the last three games whiles the host ended a run of eight games without a win away to Tema Youth last week.

New Kotoko Trainer Pledges To Revive The Club’s Ailing Fortunes

written by Editor

New trainer for Kumasi Asante Kotoko Steve Polack has promised to revive the ailing fortunes of the club ahead of his imminent arrival for the second half of the campaign. The English trainer for Berekum Chelsea recently agreed a deal with the beleaguered Kumasi based to trade camps for the start of the second department of the season.

The expatriate trainer for the Blues enjoyed two spells in the Ghana premier league with King Faisal and Berekum Chelsea before returning to the Golden City for the start of the current campaign. The soft spoken tactician masterminded an impressive home record for the 2010 league that has so far dropped points just on one occasion, coincidentally against Kotoko.

Speaking to Joy Sports ahead of his imminent arrival at the camp of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Steve Polack echoed the need for collective approach that includes the fans, management, the players and anybody related to the club.

“We know where Kumasi Asante Kotoko should be and we are going to work extra harder to achieve that.  The players are going to work harder, the management will work harder, the fans will work harder and we are going to work together”, Steve Polack told Joy Sports

Kumasi Asante Kotoko parted ways with their croat trainer Zdravko Lugarusic after eight games into the campaign and are winless since that time.

Inter Allies Trainer Patches Up With Management

written by Editor

Inter Allies trainer Prince Owusu has patched up with club management after a frosty past few weeks resulting in suspension of the Tema based gaffer.

The former Medeama SC assistant Coach Prince Owusu has exclusively told Joy Sports his relationship with the club management is as rosy as before despite his suspension two weeks ago.

The Eleven is To One trainer was asked to stay away from his team for a week after disagreement but was recalled a week later. Inter Allies play Bolga All Stars in match day 14 of the Ghana premier league and the confident trainer has confirmed patching up with his club officials ahead of the visit of the Bolga based opponents.

The former Medeama Sc Coach tells Joys sports centre he has patched up with management and that their relationship has returned to its rosy best.

“We are all doing our jobs very well. They are doing their jobs very well and I am doing mine well.

“We had some misunderstanding but we sat down to discuss it and accepted it.

“That is how I am. If you say something wrong I will tell you as it is and we move on. I don’t take things personal”, Prince Owusu told Joy Sports.

Inter Allies endured a nightmare start to the season and are languishing precariously around the wavy colored relegation zone. The Labaadi based side sold a number of their star players in the summer which has negatively affected their output in the opening 13 round of matches played.

Inter Allies Midfielder Rues Absence of Key Players In His Side

written by Editor

Inter Allies midfielder Isaac Twum has rued the absence of some key players in his side after a slow start to the season. The former Heart of Lions pass master called for patience from the teaming fan base as they gel ahead of the second round of the season.
Isaac Twum attributed the Club’s wobbly form this season to infusion of new players to the squad.Twum, who enjoyed great midfield partnership with the likes of Gockel Ahetor, Roppapa Mensah , has so far failed to haul his side away from bottom five clubs.
The Eleven is To One midfielder is confident the new players will come good, but points the fusion is taking time to click.

“It is not a very good season for us but we hope to get it right very soon. We just promoted five players from the youth side.

“If players who were here last season were to be around , we wouldn’t be where we are now.

“We are training hard so that we will be more relaxed in the league in the second round of the season”, Twum told Joy Sports.

The former Kpando based midfield icon remains one of the shining spot in the Allies side that has failed to set El Wak ablaze so far. Inter Allies welcome Bolga All Stars on Sunday in match day 14 of the Ghana premier league.

GHPL Round Up: WAFA Keep Flying , Kotoko and Hearts Held

written by Editor

Week 13 of the 2017 Ghana Premier League produced mouthwatering results across the various league centres led by the Kasalgu Park in Utrecht, Tamale. The Stars of the East denied Accra Hearts of Oak on three separate occasions in a 3-3 thriller involving Bolga All Stars.

At the Tema stadium, the Harbour Boys secured their first win in six games against relegation battlers, Great Olympics. Malik Antrie found the opener for the Tema based side before J ames Akaminko confirmed the winner after Abel Manomey had restored parity for the 1970 champions.

Life after Lugarusic seem not to be going as anticipated as Kotoko are yet to win their opening two premier league games under coach Frimpong Manso and Godwin Ablordey. The Porcupines drew one -all with Fire Boys at the Baba Yara Sports stadium.

Kotoko are without a win in their last five league games. Zakaria Mumuni’s goal was cancelled by a second half goal from Kotoko’s Abass Mohammed after a missed spot kick by Kwame Boahene.

It was a festival of goals at the Tamale Utrecht park with both Hearts and Bolga All Stars scoring 3 in a 6 goal thriller. Ivorian import , Alex Kouasi, scored a goal in the dying embers to secure a point for Accra Hearts of Oak who are facing defensive crisis due to injuries to first choice centre backs Inusah Musah and Reuben Gnagne. Returnee midfielder Winful Cobbinah provided two assists in the game billed for the gods of the land.

It was all barren at the Nana Gyeabour Fosu Park as Bechem United and Ebusua Dwarfs drew goalless. The goalscoring prowess of goal king prospect, Nicholas Gyan, was curtailed by the defensive Bechem United side that failed to feast on the few chances that came their way.

Inter Allies arrived home from Elmina with a hard earned point against Elmina Sharks. The yawning mouths of the Sharks couldn’t swallow the Tema boys in the 0-0 stalemate thanks to the goal keeping heroics of Kwame Baah.

At the Sogakokpe park, WAFA made it 18 points out of 6 games as they continue their overwhelmingly impressive start to the season. The Academy Boys defeated the Scientific Soccer Lads 2-1. Togoleses striker Komlana Agbediniadan bagged a brace to nullify the effort of Liberty skipper , Samuel Sarfo Maldini. WAFA leads the table with 29 points after 13 rounds of fixtures.

Champions , Wa All Stars were undone by a 44th minute goal from Alfred Okai Quay at the Golden City Park in a 1-0 defeat for the Blues over the Northern Blues. A controversial rolling ball was swung in by Stephen Amankona without the consent of the referee only for Alfred to guide the ball home. It ended Wa All Stars 5 match unbeaten run away from home.
