Black Stars Captain Asamoah Gyan has explained why he stepped up for the penalty in Ghana’s friendly with USA on Saturday in Hartford, even though he was not schedule for Shoot outs. Many Ghanaians have been questioning what caused Gyan’s turnaround after he publicly insisted he will not take penalties again for Ghana following advice from his departed mum.
However Gyan elected himself for the Penalty in the friendly against the USA and missed but covered himself in glory with a stunning free kick later. The unforgiving Ghanaian fans are curious about what made the Black Stars captain attempt to face his worse fear.
“Honestly I wasn’t the one to take the penalty but I just decided to shoot it. I wanted to break that jinx around me but unfortunately it didn’t happen. I am a man and I need to step up and am still digging to get there. If you don’t step up you don’t see them. I stepped up and that is why you are interviewing me right now.
I don’t know (whether I will be taking penalties). I can’t guarantee you but a time will come and every will see it. I am just trying to do more things for Ghana in my 14th year with the national team”, Gyan told reporters.
The Black Stars skipper has so far scored 51 goals in his 104 caps for the national teams. He has since enjoyed mixed feelings during his chequered time with the senior national team
