The 2016/17 UEFA champions league quarterfinals draw took place today and what an interesting draw it turned out to be.
Leicester City’s fairytale continues with a tie against one of Spanish giants, Atletico Madrid -a team, they’ve played twice before in Europe. Atlético won both ties, in the 1962 Cup Winners’ Cup and 1998 UEFA Cup.
Dortmund is paired against French side, Monaco in what promises to be a high-scoring fixture, with both teams very good going forward but not so good at the back.
Carlo Ancelotti, who now manages Bayern Munich is looking forward to the tie against his former side Real Madrid.
Carlo Ancelotti: “It’s exciting for me to play against Real Madrid. I know them very well.”
Carlo Ancelotti: “It’s a tricky draw, but we have confidence. We want to win the Champions League!”
It’ll be interesting to see how Zidane – who understudied Carlo during his days at Real Madrid will fare when they meet each other.
For Barcelona, it’s Italian giants Juventus. Unlike their miraculous 2nd leg victory over PSG to kick them out of the competition, after losing 4-0 in the fist leg, Barcelona wouldn’t have it easy with Juventus – who are very disciplined at the back, should they start off as they did against Paris Saint Germain.
