Three Ghanaian boxers, Richard Commey, Frederick Lawson and Duke Micah in the company of their promoters Streetwise Promotions headed by Michael Amoo-Bediako, Errol Hawk Sports Management led by Jacob Zwennes and the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) led by Peter Zwenness paid a courtesy call on the Youth and Sports Minster Hon. Isaac Asiamah on Tuesday.
The rational for the visit was to officially invite the minister for the upcoming boxing showdown this Saturday at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.
Commey will face Belgium’s Hedi Slimani for the vacant WBC international silver lightweight belt, Lawson will take on Jamaica’s Sakima Mullings for the vacant WBC international silver welterweight title, while Micah will slug it out with Mexico’s Jonathan Aguilar, at stake will be the vacant WBC international bantamweight title.
The promoters together with the GBA poured out their concerns with respect to how the government have neglected the sport that has produced over six world champions for the country.
But the Sports Minister who was appointed last month reiterated that he didn’t he accept the position to become football minister but he will be a minister for all.
Commey who spoke on behalf of the two other boxers thanked the sports minister for his warm reception and promised they will make the nation proud this Saturday.
