Isaac Asiamah, the minister designate for Youth and Sports will today, Tuesday, February 7, 2017 appear before the Appointments Committee of Parliament for vetting.
President Akufo Addo named the Member of Parliament for the Atwima Mponua constituency in Ashanti to fill the position in an announcement at the flagstaff house last month.
Mr. Asiamah is part of three ministerial nominees expected to face the committee today.
Familiar environment
The minister designate will face four former Sports Ministers on the vetting panel which include; immediate past Sports Minister, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, Mahama Ayariga, Muntaka Mubarak and Rashid Pelpou.
The MP for the Atwima Mponua constituency should however not be fazed by this having himself served on the Parliamentary select committee for Youth and Sports in the previous Parliament.
Black Stars and expected areas of probe
Mr. Asiamah, appears before the committee days after the Black Stars failed to break the Nation’s 35 year wait for an AFCON trophy.
Many people have raised questions about the quantum of money spent in the administration of football in the country at the neglect f other disciplines.
Frequent Changes at the Ministry
Ghana’s Sports Ministry has seen frequent changes at the top. Since 2000 the ministry has had 16 ministers averaging a one every year. The past three Ministers who have been there have fallen out with either the media or the Ghana FA.
